Interventional Radiology

What is a Interventional Radiology?

Interventional Radiology or IR is a specialised category of radiology, where minimally invasive procedures, usually using imaging guidance are performed.  A specially trained Radiologist, uses Ultrasound, Computed Tomography, Mammography or MRI guidance to perform a range of techniques such as “Nerve Root Block” or “Epidural” injections for example, as a method of pain management.

Interventional Radiology Patient Preparation

The most common preparation for Interventional Radiology procedures is to fast.  Usually no need to stop medications.  Often you will not be able to drive home, so will need to arrange transportation.  As there are many different types of procedures done, please contact Gold Coast Radiology if you have any further questions regarding your Interventional Radiology procedure or the preparation for your procedure.
